Ten Top Tips for Watering a New Lawn
1. When you prepare the ground for turfing, rake in a pre-turfing fertiliser to encourage deep rooting. Q Lawns recommends Nutrifusion pre-turf formulation
2. Don't have more turf delivered than you can install in one day - it's better to have two deliveries than to have turf starting to decompose before it's laid
3. Finish preparing the ground before your turf is delivered. That way you can start laying your new lawn as soon as it arrives.
4. When your turf is delivered, stack it in small piles in a shady place. DO NOT WATER TURF WHILE IT'S STILL ROLLED UP
5. Dampen the ground before you start laying turf
6. Press the turf gently onto the ground as you lay it to ensure that the roots have really good contact with the soil below. Always work from boards to avoid compacting the ground.
7. When you have finished turfing, water immediately. The first watering should soak right through the turf to the ground below.
8. Aim to keep the turf and the soil beneath it damp until the roots are well established. Check by lifting up a corner of the turf.
9. Water in the early morning or late evening to avoid too much water being evaporated by the sun
10. Don't over water. Boggy conditions can encourage turfgrass diseases and may even drown the turf.
